Recently, Thailand has set standards for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and stipulated that starting from January 1, 2026, Jet A-1 aviation fuel must be blended with 1% sustainable aviation fuel to support carbon neutrality and net-zero emission goals. Thailand has officially stepped into a new phase of sustainable aviation. The Department of Energy Business has confirmed its readiness to introduce new standards for sustainable aviation fuel and mandated initial blending in aviation fuel.
According to the new regulations, the specifications and quality requirements for Jet A-1 fuel during production and sales are categorized into three types: (1) traditional Jet A-1 fuel; (2) co-processed hydroprocessed fuel; and (3) traditional Jet A-1 fuel blended with pure sustainable aviation fuel. The department has also established specifications for sustainable aviation fuel itself, requiring that raw materials and production processes comply with the ASTM D7566 standard, with current production limited to the HEFA technology route. These measures will take effect on January 1, 2026.
